"“A lot of what the tech companies have come under fire for in recent years has largely—especially with regard to Facebook—focused on privacy lapses, insufficient protection for user privacy,” said Riana Pfefferkorn, an expert in surveillance and cybersecurity at the Stanford Center for Internet and Society.

“To try and take the fact that Facebook has fallen out of public favor over privacy lapses, and use a measure that would indubitably enhance user privacy against them, tries to confuse the public about what the issues are here,” Pfefferkorn said."
