A federal judge ruled Thursday that Google Inc.'s project to digitize the full text of millions of copyright-protected books without permission counted as legal fair use, a decision attorneys say broadens the doctrine's scope — for better or for worse....“It's an important step," said Julie Ahrens, director of copyright and fair use at Stanford Law School's Center for the Internet and Society.
