We here at CIS are delighted to welcome Giancarlo Frosio to our team. Giancarlo is our new Intermediary Liability Fellow, studying the ways that liabilities, immunities and safe harbors for global communications platforms affect freedom of expression and innovation online. Frosio is an Italian lawyer, fluent in several languages, with an S.J.D. and an LL.M. from Duke University Law School and an LL.M. from the University of Strathclyde in the U.K. Frosio is the former Deputy Director of the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property, a program jointly organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization and the University of Turin’s (Italy). At Turin, he teaches intellectual property, media and emerging technologies. His dissertation project included analysis of the effects of DMCA notice and take-down provisions on freedom of expression in online user-based platforms. He has written extensively on the subject of intermediary liability in both Europe and the U.S.
