He so cleanly lays out all the arguments against, and is so clear in his conviction that it would be a bad idea.

I presume if asked today he'd say things changed between '94 and '03 in a way that merited the reversal.  Probably he'd echo the discredited assertions about "WMDs" (neatly elided to equate mustard gas with nuclear weapons).  But considering the books that have documented the neocon obsession with Iraq even before 9/11, I'd have to guess the primary motivation was that they thought it would be an easy victory and the foot in the door for a new Middle East.  Whatever that means.
