Stanford CIS

The Computer History Museum

By David Levine on

I love museums as much as I love old library stacks.  There, I said it.

CIS had a tour of Mountain View, California's Computer History Museum on Friday.  What an outstanding museum, especially for an unrepentant geek!  We were lead by a very knowledgeable docent, who guided us through the Visible Storage exhibits, which trace the history of computing from the abacus to modern day servers.  We also had the opportunity to view the massive collection of items, from software to a chair with an Atari logo on it, held in storage.  I highly recommend a visit to the museum, which has recently arrived at its new location and is growing rapidly.

Thanks much to John Toole and his staff for their time and outstanding work.  My lonely Commodore 64C in my office now has its spiritual leader just a few miles down the road.
