Builder Sues Review Site and Google Over Anonymous Posting

By Robin Hamman on

The New Jersey Star-Ledger reports that:

"a Bergen County builder is suing a consumer-advocate Web site and Internet search-engine Google over an anonymous online posting that described his home construction as a shoddy "nightmare."

But an Internet scholar said such a "cyber-defamation" lawsuit has little chance of success in court, because federal law protects Web sites and search engines from being held liable for their users' posts, even defamatory ones."
