Yesterday @ OnHollywood ended with a fun presentation by Tom Green. He elicited a small chuckle from the audience when he asked if we've ever heard of vlogs or vlogging. He's calling his new vlogging endeavor "TomGreen.com The Channel".
Green's launching his vlogging site in June. He's uploading lots of video and "playing it back perfectly." He's asking people to send him their video to upload. If he hasn't started thinking about the copyright and other legal problems he'll be facing once he launches, he'll have something to think about soon. His blog post from yesterday recognizes some natural concerns about IP issues (he writes about a fear that "these business types" might steal their cool ideas).
Green has a great user/grass roots tool for gaining a stronger fan base. He has "deputized" his fans. You, too, can become a deputy. As a deputy, you get a cool badge. The deputy blog describes the benefits:
Once bestowed with this honor, and status, the new deputy will be emailed a password and login code to give them their very own piece of real estate, here at www.tomgreen.com. Their very own blog. The deputy holds a responsibility to the site, to help promote www.tomgreen.com, to the world, and their communities, on and off line. It is important that deputies get out on the streets in their part of the world, and show us what they are doing as a deputy, and how others can also become one. They lead by example. And perhaps the best deputy ideas, have not even been thought of yet. Have fun reading these deputy blogs. And if you are not a deputy yet.... Well, work hard, someday you may become a deputy yourself.
So, since I'm in Hollywood, I had to give him my card. This is the first time I've given my card to a celebrity. I also know that I could give him some good advice about things he needs to do to protect himself and his company as he ventures into this new media landscape. I hope he calls. Alternatively, I hope I can meet him again next month at Vloggercon.
