Good karmic energy with your old digital camera

By Colette Vogele on

If you've recently upgraded your digital camera (or are thinking of doing so during the holidays) this is an excellent opportunity to increase your karmic energy and give an inquisitive 5 year old the chance to become the next Ansel Adams or Annie Leibovitz.

I recently met Seth Affoumado, a photographer and educator in the Bay Area. Seth teaches photography classes for kids at the SF Friends School and San Francisco JCC. He is putting out the word that he is looking for donated digital cameras so that kids of all walks can learn about the cool things that can be done in digital photography. Follow the "More" link for details on the class and where you can send your old digital cameras.

Teaching photography to kindergarten children? Well, it seems silly but children are really very image savvy.

I am a professional photographer and have been working with children for the past 5 years. Recently, I started teaching a class at the San Francisco Friends School. I started with throw-a-way cameras and moved into digital.

Digital makes the review process easier, and more fun for the students. No waiting, and  they can learn from the results instantly. The class will be offered at the San Francisco JCC in February, 2006.

My challenge is finding digital cameras. If anyone you know has an older digital point-and-shoot camera that works, I would like to buy it for a nominal fee or have it donated to the program. 2 megapixel cameras would be fine. Nikon Cool Pix, Fuji etc. Nothing fancy! (Older Canon ELF Digital cameras would be a blessing!) To thank you for your donation I can offer a signed original print from one of the students and a non-profit tax receipt.
