President Bush is apparently selecting Bernard Kerik, a former NYC Police Commissioner, to the position of Homeland Defense. But Kerik seems to be a committed partisan, not the kind of person who should be coordinating our homeland defense.
Consider this op-ed in the NY Post the day before the Nov. 2004 election. He concludes that piece as follows:
When I cast my vote, I am going to remember these moments. I am going to remember what I lost on 9/11, and how I felt on that morning. I'm going to reflect on what I would have thought on that day if I had heard someone like John Kerry speak to me about global tests, about nuisances, about how this day "didn't change me much at all."
And then I am going to vote for President George W. Bush.
Given this partisan--and unfair--display, are we to expect another few years of orange alerts engineered for maximum political advantage?
With the partisan Goss as head of CIA, with Rice at State, with Kerik at Homeland Security--is this an Administration that wants to protect us or itself?
