My friend Mike Swartz responds cogently to my earlier posting on the possibility of refusing to patronize corporations that donate heavily to Republicans:
"While I suppose there are extreme examples that would justify a boycott, such boycotts would generally be destructive. If all the democrats boycott the republicans, reprisal is inevitable. This will lead to everyone lowering their standard of living due to a political disagreement while raising the thermostat on the the already intense political conflict. That wouldn't be very constructive. Moreover, if boycotts worked, we'd have corporations making hiring decisions based on popularity of a manager's political party. That would also be undesirable."
