Tom Ridge says al Qaeda plans a large-scale attack on the United States "in an effort to disrupt the democratic process" before November's elections.
Is Ridge himself trying to disrupt the democratic process by deflecting attention from the stunningly popular choice of Edwards as future Veep? Despite the dire warnings, the national security alert level has not been raised.
The media should raise this question everytime Ridge or Ashcroft announce a new threat. One is left to wonder whether the Bush Administration is waiting to raise the terror level till October for maximum terror (and incidentally political) effect.
