Sandy Berger, loyal American and former National Security Advisor to the President of the United States, admits to misfiling papers in the national archives in his briefcase. The scandal seems to be in the disclosure of a criminal investigation that has been ongoing for several months. Did the Justice Department disclose it--or did the White House--which we now just learn also knew about the investigation? Did George Bush or Dick Cheney authorize the disclosure?
And the Republican-led Congress, which the 9/11 Commission will apparently accuse of neglecting its role of overseeing the Administration, hastily assembles to hold hearings about the accusations against Berger.
Neither Bush nor Cheney would testify under oath as they met to discuss the worst attack on the United States for the last half-century, but the Republican-led Congress will insist on everyone at the Berger hearings raising their hand to determine if Berger misfiled documents.
