Markle Task Force on National Security in the Information Age to present at Stanford on March 19

By Stanford Center for Internet and Society on

Stanford Law School and the Markle Foundation cordially invite you to a
panel discussion to be led by members of the Markle Foundation Task Force
on National Security in the Information Age. This event will be co-hosted
by Zoë Baird, Co-Chairman of the Task Force and President of the Markle
Foundation, and Task Force members Eric Benhamou (3Com), Abraham Sofaer
(Hoover Institution), and Rick White (TechNet).

This event will be held at Stanford Law School's Kresge Auditorium on
Friday, March 19 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A box lunch will be provided.
Please RSVP for this event (nboursiquot@markle.org or 212-713-7657,) and
additional information will be provided on the program, location, and
parking for the event to those interested in attending.

The Task Force recently released its second report, Creating a Trusted
Information Network for Homeland Security. In the report, the Task Force
addresses the key actions needed to create an information network that will
increase our nation's security while preserving our fundamental rights and
civil liberties. Task Force members -- including some of the nation's
leading experts on information technology, national security, and privacy
-- will present and discuss their recommendations and findings, followed by
a discussion with audience members.

The discussion will include the presentation of interactive visualization
that describes the SHARE Network, a proposed network for the sharing of
information regarding counter terrorist efforts among federal, state, and
local government agencies as well as the private sector.

The SHARE Network that the Task Force proposes could be built using
existing and emerging technologies. These technology products would allow
information to be both protected and shared through the use of published
directories and permissioning rules to determine who can access the
information and would allow for the authentication of subscribers and the
anonymization of personally identifiable information where appropriate in
order to share the necessary information while protecting privacy, sources,
and methods.
