Emily Baxter

Emily Baxter is a research associate for Women's Economic Policy at the Center for American Progress, focusing on women's and families' economic security, women's leadership, and work-family balance. She previously worked as the special assistant for the Faith and Progressive Policy Initiative at the Center. In the fall of 2012, Emily was a field organizer for President Obama’s re-election campaign near her hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania. Directly prior to her campaign work, Emily earned a master’s of science in gender from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where she won the inaugural Betty Scharf Prize for Best Dissertation in Gender and Religion. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College, where she studied anthropology with a focus on women’s and gender studies. As both a graduate and undergraduate student, Emily’s academic interests include the importance of cross-disciplinary analysis in understanding the intersection of gender, religion, politics, and identity, especially in the lives of American Catholic nuns. Her writing has appeared on The Huffington Post, ThinkProgress, Sojourners, and PolicyMic.
