CIS Career Lunch Series: Adventures in Online Content Policymaking

January 15, 2019 12:50 pm to 2:00 pm

RSVP is required for this free event.

Join CIS for the first of our series of winter quarter lunchtime career talks. In a time of disinformation campaigns, hate speech, and adult content controversies, content moderation is a thorny issue for online platforms. How do the teams within such companies build the expertise to handle these challenges? Adelin Cai will discuss her career in shaping ad and content policy at Google, Twitter, and most recently Pinterest.

Adelin Cai is the former head of Policy at Pinterest, where she led the team to develop the company's principles and core values around content moderation, covering a range of issues from hateful speech to medical (mis)information to dank memes. Prior to Pinterest, she spent 3 years leading Twitter's Legal Ads Policy team, driving the rules for content moderation as Product and Engineering launched self-serve and international advertising. Accidentally working in the "tech industry" since 2007, she's currently taking a break from full time work to be an independent consultant and dedicated cat parent.
