Stanford University is located in sunny Northern California, approximately 40 miles south of San Francisco.

Travel

By Air

Stanford is roughly equidistant from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and San Jose International Airport (SJO).

For transportation to and from the area airports, we recommend SuperShuttle at (650) 558-8500 or BayPorter Express at (877) 467-1800 (for service to San Francisco International Airport) and South and East Bay Shuttle at (800) 548-4664 (for service to San Jose International Airport). A door-to-door shuttle to or from the airport will cost approximately $25.

Public Transit

From points south of Stanford (Santa Clara Valley Transportation Agency):
The Valley Transportation Agency (VTA) runs buses to Palo Alto and most points south of Stanford. It also operates the light rail line in Santa Clara County. More »

From points north of Stanford (SamTrans):
SamTrans runs buses to most points north of Stanford. Five of their lines serve Stanford well. More »

NOTICE: The Caltrain shuts down on weekends and is replaced with the RRX, Caltrain's alternate bus service. Also, the Stanford shuttle, called The Marguerite, has limited service on weekends.
