New technology has revolutionized how we all do business. Yet it can also pose risk to customers' rights, especially their privacy and freedom of expression. As scores of recent controversies show, failing to take these rights into account can easily lead to negative press, costly lawsuits, and government investigations. That's why the ACLU of Northern California has developed "Privacy and Free Speech: It's Good for Business," a primer packed with case studies and hands-on tools to help businesses bake privacy and free speech protections into new product development and business models.

Panelists at this event sponsored by Stanford Law School's Center for Internet and Society will discuss the importance of the primer and how businesses can avoid costly mistakes and build on successes by thinking about privacy and free speech issues at the early stages of business development and throughout a product or service's lifecycle.

Copies of the primer will be distributed at the panel. Digital copies are available for download at www.aclunc.org/tech.
