Defining the Legal Lines: Youth, Cyberbullying and Wellbeing

November 20, 2013 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

CIS Non-Residential Fellow Shaheen Shariff and will be hosting the "Defining the Legal Lines: Youth, Cyberbullying and Wellbeing" conference at McGill University.

The recent Throne Speech delivered in Senate Chambers confirmed the Federal government's intent to develop legislation to address cyber-bullying and online sexual abuse. Now at the top of Canadian public policy agendas, the conference offers a timely opportunity to consider legal and policy issues such as the challenges of balancing the right to free online expression with privacy, security, supervision and regulation. Legal scholars will join scholars from education, psychology and information systems to address context, complexities and the current policy vacuum. The conference will help clarify emerging legal concerns for teachers, school principals, school board officials, parents, school counselors and librarians. The conference is co-sponsored by the Institute of Human Development and Wellbeing, and the Dean of Students Office at McGill.
