Recently, the German Max Planck Society - an independent, non-profit research organization to promote scientific progress in the natural sciences as well as the humanities - established the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods. While a temporary research group on this topic has been existing since 1997, the permanent institute was founded at the end of August this year. Read more about MPI on Collective Goods

Intel has posted a draft of its LaGrande Technology Policy on Owner/User Choice and Control, and welcomes comments until the end of this year. While I like many of their policy goals, I have a problem with one. This is not particular to LaGrande (LT), but a general problem of all TC architectures. I doubt whether the mere statement that LT will be "opt-in" will lead to something which actually resembles user choice. Read more about Intel LaGrande Policy Draft

I assume that writing a blog is like writing anything-- the biggest hurdle is sitting down and starting. I manage the eldred blog, and post to the cis blog, and I read alot of blogs and work with Lessig who sings the virtues of blogging. But will that make me any good? We'll see...
