Bay Area Blawgers Get-Together (with new parent caveat)

by David Levine, posted on February 24, 2007 - 9:58am

The month of February has been a blur, primarily spent doing all (and then some) of the new parent things about which I was warned and cautioned. So, for the time being in my blog, I am reduced to merely passing along what I believe to be useful announcements; writing energy being conserved primarily for my next article.

National Day of Action for Open Access: Feb. 15

by David Levine, posted on February 7, 2007 - 4:48am

I received an email announcement from freeculture.org, "a diverse, non-partisan group of students and young people who are working to get their peers involved in the free culture movement," excerpted and html-ized (is that a word?) below:

At long last, and after repeated mentions on my radio show and podcast, Hearsay Culture, I am pleased to announce that Hearsayculture.com is live. The webpage includes information about the current shows, audio for all previous shows, and the schedule, as well as information about the show generally.

Balancing the Federal Budget

by David Levine, posted on January 23, 2007 - 7:51pm

It is always dangerous to blog when upset, but I will take the risk now so as to not subject my poor wife to further rants.

I have just finished the process of watching the President's State of the Union address. I want to focus on two sentences from that address that raised my ire.

Hearsay Culture Schedule Through Mid-May

by David Levine, posted on January 15, 2007 - 2:14pm

I am very pleased to announce the Hearsay Culture schedule through mid-May. Also, I think that I have solved my tech glitches [thanks to Lauren, Kent, Ben and Joe!] and will soon have audio of all previous shows posted, both here and on a separate website.

Meanwhile, here's the schedule (airdates -- not guests -- subject to change):

Hearsay Culture Update

by David Levine, posted on January 4, 2007 - 6:28pm

I am working on the Hearsay Culture schedule into the Spring and am very excited about the guests that I'm lining up. I'll be posting a schedule, hopefully by mid-January. The current schedule of future guests is here.

Meanwhile, the Palo Alto Daily News had a nice article about the 60th anniversary of KZSU-FM, the wonderful station whose equipment I use and that airs Hearsay Culture. Ben Levitt, KZSU's program director, nicely summarized Hearsay Culture as a tech show for "non-nerdy non-lawyers." While I welcome both nerds and lawyers -- I am certainly at least one of those, and many would consider me both -- I am hopeful that the show also attracts many who do not live tech or law, but merely want to learn. To that end, I thank Ben for his description and all at KZSU-FM for their support of the show! Happy anniversary!

Final Hearsay Culture Schedule Into February -- Yes, This Is It!

by David Levine, posted on December 9, 2006 - 7:36am

With a busy schedule of flying place to place and a child on the way, my radio schedule for Hearsay Culture (see here for more info on the show) has been in a state of flux. But I think that I now have a final schedule into February -- and I thank everyone for their patience.

Also, I've been working on a corollary webpage, and alas I am hopeful that I can get audio onto it. I'll be posting audio here as well, and when the webpage is live, I'll let you know. Meanwhile, I hope that you enjoy the upcoming lineup, and, as always, welcome feedback and suggestions!

Further Revised Hearsay Culture Schedule

by David Levine, posted on November 16, 2006 - 8:50pm

My hectic schedule has caused some further revisions to the schedule of Hearsay Culture. So, here's a further revised schedule of upcoming shows, with some added guests:

November 22: Erik Davis, philosopher and author of the book "Techgnosis."

November 29: Assoc. Prof. Frank Pasquale of Seton Hall Law School on "Limiting Exclusion and Inclusion Harms in Search," an examination of web search engines and the impact of web search engine results.

Hearsay Culture Audio and Revised Schedule

by David Levine, posted on November 6, 2006 - 1:35pm

As I learn all the fun and angles of building a website, I want to offer interim relief pending the launch of the actual Hearsay Culture website (wow, that was true legalese!) So, I am pleased to offer the first 15 shows of Hearsay Culture below, all in mp3 format and without the musical interludes. They are also still available on iTunes here. The rest of the shows will be posted soon.

Note: for the full one-hour show with music, you need to listen live on KZSU-FM on Wednesdays from 5-6 PM PST. Otherwise, the current state of copyright law prevents me from offering the music, so you'll find the interviews without the music below. Enjoy, and as always, I welcome feedback!
