Brief filed in U.S. v. McDanel

The Cyberlaw Clinic filed the opening brief yesterday in the Ninth Circuit appeal of the criminal conviction of a man who used email to inform his former employer's customers of a security flaw in their web mail service. The Clinic is challenging the conviction on the grounds that federal law does not prohibit security advisories and that such reports are protected by the First Amendment. Special thanks to clinic students Micah Myers and Avlana Eisenberg, summer intern Andrew Klausmeyer, and Stanford student Tom Nguyen who assisted with the appeal.
