Agreement Allows Colleges to Continue or Begin Webcasting

On May 31st, 2003, several groups, including CIS client Collegiate Broadcasters, Inc., successfully negotiated an agreement with the Recording Industry Association of America concerning copyright royalties for noncommercial entities streaming music over the Internet.
The press release is available on CBI's website. Radio and Internet Newsletter has an article on the deal.
College webcasters can opt in to the Agreement to receive special royalty rates and avoid the onerous recordkeeping requirements through 2004.
This outcome represents many months of work by CIS attorneys and students and years of work by CBI officers Will Robedee and Joel Willer, as well as the other groups involved in the negotiations.
